It’s going to be 90 degrees over the next few days, and you may wonder why we’re “Talking Turkey”. It’s because we’re already planning for our November turkey distribution in August. Our Gobble Up Hunger campaign is an example of the volume of food we handle here at the MVFB.
Imagine our 110 member agencies/programs
Serving 55,000 individuals monthly
Divided by 4 people per family (average) = 13,750 turkeys needed
We begin planning our turkey donations, including transportation and storage, because our member agencies begin distributing their turkeys to families in October, and if they rely upon the MVFB and its donors for many of their turkeys, it helps us to have as many of our Thanksgiving turkeys donated as early as possible so that our members and their guests can use their own resources to purchase produce, canned items and staples to use for other meals.
We appreciate fresh or frozen turkey donations and supermarket gift cards Monday – Friday between 8:30am – 3:30pm. We also welcome monetary donations for the Gobble Up Hunger Campaign through November 21, 2013.
